Today, in order to use the services provided with the wireless LAN, there are many applications which should be followed by the enterprises in order to use it. Some of the applications include access to different databases, e-mail, and web browsing and voice mails. The enterprises consider a lot of things in order to get extra performance which involve higher data rates and techniques. Unlike in the 1990’s with the first implementation of Wireless LAN, you can even use 1Mbps data rates to be able transfer small bar codes for bounded users only (Geier, 2002).
In order to achieve better and extra performance from the wireless Local Area Network, there are some considerations which the users need to perform. One of these is the issue of the choice of what is the right 802. 11 Physical Layer. Physical Layers maybe 802. 11a, 802. 11b and 802. 11g. 802. 11a provides the highest capacity at 54Mbps for the 12 non overlapping channels. It has also an established freedom from the most possible RF interference. 802.
11b provides data rates of 11Mbps and consist of only three non overlapping channels while the 802. 11g needs the help of the 802. 11b networks the operation with 54Mbps. There are three non-over lapping channels for the 802. 11g Physical Layer. For maximum performance purposes, the 802. 11ais the most utilized PHY layer but more access points are required since the range of the 802. 11a is lower than the range of the 802. 11b (Geier, 2002) After choosing the right PHY Layer, it is also important to provide an adequate RF coverage.
To be able to achieve the high level performance of the wireless LANs, it is important to make sure the RF coverage is as spread out as possible. The RF coverage should be able reach the large bulk of users in an area. The proper positioning of the access points and the proper transmission of power will and the proper setting up of the antenna will also contribute to the achievement of total performance (Geier, 2002). The avoidance of the RF interference should also be considered fro total performance of the wireless LAN.
Some of the disturbances that offer significant interference to the operation of the 802. 11 wireless LAN are the cordless phones or any other wireless LAN connection. Set up of the access points channels in order to prevent the RF interference should be able be established in order to achieve the total performance of the wireless Local Area Network. Survey called as the RF survey could also be employed before the design and installation of the wireless LAN should be done. Conclusion
Wireless Local Area Network had provided many benefits in order for the networking purposes to succeed. It had been a great help for many companies for it had provided data transfer and communication transmission in an easy way. There are some threats and disadvantages of the wireless Local Area Network but several security tools had been developed to be able to prevent the problems of hacking and other related problems.
