World Religion Catholic

As far as I know, the word catholic pertains to a universal church. It signifies to any Christian faith that believes on Jesus Christ. The word catholic was used by the earlier Christian authors in what we may call as non-ecclesiastical sense. In the present day, I have noticed that there are many religious practices that have been observed and practiced by different cultures and races. But despite of those different religions coming out, Catholic Church continues to extend its tent and proclaim the good news.

Catholic Church has a strong foundation of faith which is supported by the Bible, the oldest book in the world history and written by apostles who were anointed by the Holy Spirit to write. If we compare the Catholic Church to any faith, it is very unique and really supported with facts through the writings of the apostles who had personal encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ. Catholic Church believes on the birth, death and resurrection of Christ.

Its faith is founded on Christ Jesus, the son of God who was sent on earth to save those who are in bondage of sin and be saved and a son of God who was behind the extraordinary and supernatural miracles happen; thus, one of the great miracles happen when he himself rose from the dead. If Jesus is only a prophet, why He was able to rise from the dead? Why does Muhammad do not do it? Of all “prophets”-since Islam believes that Jesus Christ is only a prophet- who already passed away, it is only Jesus Christ who rose from the dead.

I have realized that of all religions we have on earth, only the belief of Catholic Church showed vivid and concise events that really happened in the past, in the present and in the future. However, most people also believe that Islam is the true religion. They believe on Prophet Muhammad and Allah as their God. They worship Allah by bowing down and pray as much as five times in a day compared to Catholic faith, they believe on praying without ceasing as stated in the Bible. Islam believers use the Qur’an as their holy scriptures.

Islam believers have their pilgrimage to Mecca once a year as part of their practices. They also practice the “jihad” which means a “holy war”. For them, declaring jihad is not a sin. Catholicism and Islam are one of the oldest religions around the world. Catholic religion is the largest world religion which is followed by Islam faith. Both religions have their own claims and have strong faith in God. However, these two religions have different practices and absolutely different in worshipping God.

The intents of this paper are to: (1) understand what Catholic and Islam religions really are; (2) differentiate the distinctive beliefs and practices between Catholic and Islam religions and; (3) learn about the Catholic and Islamic law. II. Background A. Catholic Church The term Catholic is a Christian ecclesiastical and a Greek adjective ????????? which means “general” or “universal”. The word Catholicism usually denotes to the churches in communion together with the Bishop of Rome. These churches unitedly create the single body that is popularly known as the Catholic Church. However, Catholic Church is also noted as Roman Catholic Church.

The term is used particularly to those who are not of the same practice or communion. But other old churches like the Eastern Orthodox Church, the Assyrian Church of the East and Oriental Orthodox Church, “each considers itself to be Orthodox Catholic Church” (see “Catholicism”. Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. November 21, 2006). There are Churches too that declare the quality of being “catholic” as stated to the Nicene Creed and steadiness with the early Church “on the that their episcopate has apostolic succession”. These comprise the Churches of the old Catholic Church and of the Anglican Communion.

These are associations too within the Anglican Church that assert the central significance of Catholic doctrine at the same time maintain an organizational disconnection from the Roman Catholic Church. Moreover, Neo-Lutheran Churches are basically a Reformation movement that “remains within the greater Church of catholic”. Saint Augustine of Hippo has written: “In the Catholic Church, there are many other things which most justly keep me in her bosom. The consent of peoples and nations keeps me in the Church; so does her authority, inaugurated by miracles, nourished by hope, enlarged by love, established by age.

The succession of priests keeps me, beginning from the very seat of the Apostle Peter, to whom the Lord, after His resurrection, gave it in charge to feed His sheep (John 21:15-19), down to the present episcopate. “And so, lastly, does the very name of Catholic, which, not without reason, amid so many heresies, the Church has thus retained; so that, though all heretics wish to be called Catholics, yet when a stranger asks where the Catholic Church meets, no heretic will venture to point to his own chapel or house.

Such then in number and importance are the precious ties belonging to the Christian name which keep a believer in the Catholic Church, as it is right they should … With you, where there is none of these things to attract or keep me… No one shall move me from the faith which binds my mind with ties so many and so strong to the Christian religion… For my part, I should not believe the gospel except as moved by the authority of the Catholic Church” (see “Catholicism”. Islam Church Islam church is a monotheistic religion which faith is based on the Qur’an which is their main scripture. The followers of Islam are popularly called as Muslims and they call their God as Allah. Muslims believe that Allah revealed the Qur’an to Muhammad, their prophet, and strongly believe that Muhammad is the final prophet of God. Most of the Muslims witness the actions and teachings of Muhammad to be essential tools for translating the Qur’an. The term Islam denotes a “humble attitude of submission to God and his will”.

This is why the Muslims claimed that they are the true religion. Just like Christianity, Islam church comes from an Abrahamic religion. Presently, it is estimated that there are only 20 percent of Muslims come from Arab countries and Muslims are found all over the world specifically in the North Africa, Central Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia and Middle East. Islam is considered as the second largest religion in France, Western Europe and the United Kingdom (see “Islam”. Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. November 22, 2006).
